About Bert

I began quilting, with the help of some friends, in 2005, and have been quilting ever since. In that time, I’ve completed several projects in a variety of styles and colour combinations. My approach to quilting generally doesn’t involve using a particular pattern. I tend to have a concept I want to bring to life, or find a fabric on sale somewhere that looks like it could be turned into something fun.

As the photos in the ‘Introductions’ post show, my quilts cross a range of styles, but generally use some strong colours and shapes.

  1. I didn’t start quilting until a couple years ago. I’ve finished a few baby quilts. I have one that I embroidered all the panels and framed them with scraps…I’m almost afraid to try to quilt it…

    • Maybe this would work for you too…I find when I am stuck on starting quilting if I start on the structural or stabilizing quilting (stitching in the ditch in and around blocks to hold everything in place) which isn’t scary then as I do that I figure out what other quilting I want to do to embellish. By the time I have done the stabilizing quilting I have a few options on what to do next and I don’t want to stop:-)

If you are in need of some inspiration have a look at my quilting guides page or my recent post on quilting lessons from the Canberra quilters.

And remember quilting is supposed to be fun and relaxing, do it your way and enjoy it 🍀

  2. I, too, love quilting. I enjoy every step of the process, but, being a fabricoholic, buying fabric is my favorite thing to do. I just live all of the possibilities. I usually stick to various blocky cuts because they are easier for me, and easy is fun. Thanks for checking out my blog.
